Kent

Kent 'Carlos' Everett began his love of building guitars in 1977, and has had a guitar in the works ever since.
He is primarily self-taught.'I have learned a lot from many different people. Does that mean I am self-taught? The two people who have influenced me the most are: Devon Bogue for teaching me the meaning of craftsmanship; and Wade Lowe for teaching me that it is OK to be passionate about your work.'
During the 1980's, Everett worked for and later owned the premier repair shop in Atlanta: the Atlanta Guitar Works.

After the 50 hour week of repair and restoration, Kent still found evening and weekend time to follow his passion for building.'My goal was to reach a point where I could actually build guitars during the daytime.' Building approximately 10 instruments annually, he built a variety of archtop, semi-hollow, solid-body electrics, acoustics, Dobros, mandolins, and in
1988 received a patent for his popular electric guitar design.

Toward the end of the 1980's, Everett began building more and more and repairing less and less. In 1990
he closed the Guitar Works and opened Everett Guitars, a one man shop dedicated to
building high-end acoustic guitars.
(Please note : The current Atlanta Guitar Works has no relation to our old shop.
Although I am sure they do fine work; they have not trained with me. I am not connected with them.)

Hagstrom Kent - 1962 - 1966
(also includes Futurama, Futurama De Luxe and Cromwell)
In 1962 there was a brand new Hagstrom model introduced on the market. This guitar has a very 'Strat' like shape and design with two cut aways, tremolo and six in line headstock. Because of the front in acrylate containimng all the electronics and the body covered in vinyl needing no paint those guitars could be manufactured cheaply and rationally meeting the huge demand for electric guitars in the early 60's. The main reason not branding those 'budget' guitars Hagstrom was, according to Karl Erik Hagström, their doubts if the acrylic fronts would keep from cracking! Some Kent guitars with the acrylic front was sold without the Kent logo on the front of the headstock and some with. From 1963 there was also Kent branded guitars build with all solid bodies with two or three pick ups. All Kent guitars had the Tremar tremolo system.
